Congress Has Become Bhai-Behen Party: JP Nadda

NEW DELHI: Reiterating Bharatiya Janata Party’s stand against family dominated political parties, its president JP Nadda made a scathing attack on Congress.

Addressing a seminar on the threat of Dynastic Political Parties To Democratic Governance’, Nadda said, “Congress is neither national nor Indian and not democratic party anymore and has become a bhai-behen party.”

Citing the presence of dynastic parties from Jammu and Kashmir to Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, he said family interests are supreme in these parties, vitiating the election process.

“In J&K, BJP is fighting PDP and National Conference, both family parties. In Haryana, INLD is also the party of a family and in Uttar Pradesh, we have Samajwadi Party. In Bihar there is RJD and in Bengal, we have Trinamool Congress. In Odisha, it is BJD, in Andhra Pradesh, there are YSR and Jagan Mohan Reddy while in Telangana it is TRS. In Tamil Nadu, the Karunanidhi family runs DMK while in Maharashtra Shiv Sena and NCP are family-run parties,” Nadda said while highlighting how regional parties have become family-owned parties.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said that these regional parties are nothing short of a “private limited” company and blamed these outfits for cases of corruption, claiming that they need money for families to maintain their absolute power.

Fadnavis also taunted Congress and said, “Prince doesn’t want to be the president of the party but nor does he want anyone else to take over, and the party is functioning without a head.”
