Congress Calls Out Indian Express Story As Bogus

Congress rebutted the Indian Express report that Rahul Gandhi called AIADMK leader E Palaniswamy seeking his support for opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Sunday described a report in Indian Express as “wholly bogus and totally false” over the claims that former party President Rahul Gandhi called AIADMK leader E Palaniswamy seeking his support for opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha.

In a statement, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said, “A so-called news item has appeared in the Indian Express today that Rahul Gandhi called up AIADMK leader Palaniswamy seeking support for the combined Opposition candidate for the Presidential election Yashwant Sinha.”

“This is wholly bogus and totally false. No such phone call was made,” he said.

Ramesh said that the MK Stalin-led DMK-Congress alliance is firm and steadfast enough to withstand such “crude and mischievous efforts” to sow confusion and weaken it.

The opposition parties have fielded Yashwant Sinha as its presidential candidate. The former Minister of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government is pitted against Draupadi Murmu in the presidential election. He is travelling across the country seeking support from like-minded parties.
