NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday hits out at the central government over the impasse in Parliament over the issues of inflation, unemployment, Agnipath and misuse of CBI and ED. The party said that the government’s dictatorial attitude didn’t allow any sort of discussion to take place in the last two weeks.

Addressing a press conference at the Vijay Chowk here outside Parliament, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain said, “As you all know that for the past two weeks, Congress and other opposition parties have been giving notices to the government and especially in the Rajya Sabha under Rule, 267 on various issues. It was Price rise, inflation, Agnipath, misuse of ED, IT and CBI, Chinese incursion and the falling rupee on all these issues.

“But the government’s adamant and dictatorial attitude didn’t allow any sort of discussion to take place in the last two weeks and our Parliamentary business was washed off,” Hussain said.

The Congress leader said that we were continuously asking for a discussion. ‘We said that we are ready to cooperate with the government provided the government also includes the issues raised by the opposition which are the issues of the people of this country, but, unfortunately, the government did not yield to it and only yesterday, they agreed for a discussion for a short duration discussion in Lok Sabha and despite the opposition MPs raising issues that concern the people of the country, the Finance Minister and the government were in a denial mode,” he said.

Launching a tirade against the government, Hussain said that they (BJP) said there is no inflation. “They said there is no price rise, nothing much is happening here, there will be no recession, they either live in the past or they live in the future, they don’t speak about the present condition,” he said.

He also said that BJP either says it is a Congress regime, or the Congress governments in the past, who are responsible for what is happening now or they say that whatever is happening at the international level, is the reason for what is happening in our country today.

“So, we have been asking the government to have a discussion in Rajya Sabha under rule 267, so that we can suspend all the business of the entire day and then have a long discussion on this issue, so that every Member of Parliament have sufficient time to his or her views in the Rajya Sabha, but the government didn’t agree for that nevertheless,” he said.

He further said that the government said that it would have a discussion on price rise in the short duration that is from the afternoon. “We wanted a full day discussion but since it is a discussion on price rise for which we have been asking for the past two weeks. We will participate in the discussion, but we would like the government to answer our basic questions, whether there is a price rise or not, whether there is inflation or not, whether they have increased GST on food products or not and whether the prices are of Petrol-Diesel and Gas are continuously rising or not?” he said.

The Congress leader said that the party would be expecting the Prime Minister to be there in Parliament and also expecting the Finance Minister and the government to give some relief to the common men of this country, to the poor of this country.
