NEW DELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the postponement of the NEET-PG 2024 medical exam.

She accused the BJP government of handing over the education system to “mafia” and “corrupt” entities, leading to widespread exam irregularities. The verbal exchange intensified after several national exams faced disruptions.

“The political stubbornness and arrogance of handing over the country’s education and the future of the children to greedy and sycophantic incompetent people has made paper leaks, cancellation of exams, disappearance of education from campuses, and political hooliganism the identity of our education system,” Vadra stated in her Hindi post on social media.

She further criticised PM Modi, saying, “The capable youth of the country are wasting their precious time and energy in fighting the corruption of the BJP, and the helpless Modi ji is just watching the spectacle.”

BJP leaders countered these allegations, with Amit Malviya claiming that the NEET-UG paper leak was linked to Congress ally RJD in Bihar. “The strings of NEET-UG paper leak are linked to Congress’s ally RJD.

To cover it up, AAP itself was posting fake videos. The remaining exams have been postponed so that the opposition cannot play with the future of the students and cannot use them for its dirty politics,” Malviya tweeted.

The postponement of NEET-PG, initially scheduled for June 23, follows recent cancellations of other major exams. Last week, the UGC-NET exam was cancelled after its question papers were leaked online.

The NEET-UG exam also came under scrutiny when 67 medical aspirants scored full marks, raising concerns over its integrity. Reports of paper leaks from Bihar have further complicated the situation.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi described the situation as an “education emergency,” calling for accountability from Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

“We are seeing how one paper after another is being postponed or cancelled. Dharmendra Pradhan had refused any inquiry regarding the NEET paper leak… Just transferring the NTA chairman will not work,” Chaturvedi told ANI, demanding Pradhan’s resignation for failing to manage the crisis.

In a bid to address the allegations and restore integrity, the Central government has ordered a CBI probe into the exam irregularities. Additionally, the National Testing Agency (NTA) director general Subodh Kumar Singh was removed from his post. Pradeep Singh Kharola has been appointed as the new chief of the testing agency, and a seven-member panel led by former ISRO chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan has been formed to recommend reforms.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also criticised PM Modi, stating, “Under BJP rule, students are forced to ‘fight’ against the government to save their future, not ‘study’ to make their career. Modi, who has been a silent spectator every time, is completely helpless in front of the paper leak racket and education mafia.”
