NEW DELHI: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the proposal for the candidature of Assembly by-election of two states, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on June 17.
Kharge has approved the candidature of Pushpendra from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh against Ashish Sharma of Bhartiya Janta Party. Congress has fielded Hardeep Singh Bawa from Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh against BJP candidate Krishna Lal Thakur. Congress is yet to confirm the candidate from Dehra, Himachal Pradesh, Which is also going to by polls. On the other hand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on June 13 had released its list of candidates for Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Kharge has also approved the candidature of Lakhpat Butola from Badrinath, Uttarakhand and Qazi Nizamuddin from Manglaur, Uttarakhand against BJP candidate Kartar Singh Bhadana. Nizamuddin will be pitted against BJP candidate Kartar Singh Bhadana and BSP’s Obedur Rehman in the Mangalore seat.
Badrinath seat was vacated by Rajendra Bhandari who won the assembly 2022 from the congress ticket but switched to BJP during the Lok Sabha elections.
The voting process will be conducted at 342 polling stations across both assembly constituencies in Uttarakhand. A total of 2,22,075 regular voters and 2821 service voters are expected to participate. In the Mangalore assembly seat, there are 119,930 regular voters and 255 service voters, while in the Badrinath assembly seat, there are 102,145 regular voters and 2566 service voters.
Other than these two states the Election Commission of India (ECI) has also announced the schedule for the upcoming by-elections across 13 Assembly constituencies in Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and Punjab. The last date for filing nomination papers is set for June 21. The election will be held across all constituencies on July 10 and the results will be declared on July 13.
