The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths are carrying out raids at seven places in West Bengal, including three in Asansol and two in Kolkata, in connection with the coal smuggling scam.
The places being searched include two located on Prince Anwar Shah Road in Kolkata, the Diamond Harbour residence of businessman Prateek Diwan and another location that is yet unknown.
The CBI is also searching the residences of State Law Minister Moloy Ghatak in Asansol and Abhijit Ghatak, the deputy mayor of Asansol Municipal Corporation and brother of Moloy Ghatak.
Eight members of the CBI team are conducting the searches at the residences of Ghataks. A female officer is also questioning Moloy Ghatak’s wife.
Earlier, Moloy Ghatak was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding the same scam.
On Tuesday, Moloy Ghatak tweeted against Union Home Minister Amit Shah stating, “Horrifying state of affairs in our country under the watch of Mr @AmitShah! It’s only fair to say that #IndiasBiggestPappuAmitShah is a complete DISASTER!”
In a scathing attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party, Trinamool Congress (TMC) has come up with a T-shirt campaign that reads ‘India’s Biggest Pappu’ with a cartoon figure that resembles Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
On September 2, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was questioned by the ED related to the coal smuggling scam for close to eight hours.
A few days back, eight top IPS officers of West Bengal were summoned by the ED in Delhi over the case.
In July, the CBI filed a charge sheet against 41 people in connection with the same scam.
