NEW DELHI: Amidst political turmoil in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a crucial meeting with state ministers on Wednesday to strategise for the upcoming by-elections in 10 assembly constituencies. The meeting aimed to discuss the current situation in each region, develop an effective election campaign, and address pressing issues such as the ongoing floods affecting the state.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Adityanath instructed all in-charge ministers to rest for overnight in their respective regions twice a week until the elections conclude. This directive is intended to ensure that ministers are actively engaged with local issues and voters, thereby bolstering the party’s presence and effectiveness on the ground.
“The Chief Minister urged ministers to engage with party workers and focus on strengthening the booths,” Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said after the meeting. This focus is part of a broader strategy to maintain the party’s momentum and ensure success in the bypolls.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the need for an enhanced social media strategy to strengthen public relations and disseminate accurate information about the state’s development projects. By leveraging social media, the party aims to keep the public well-informed and counteract any misinformation.
The meeting also reviewed the severe floods impacting over 700 villages across 17 districts. Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh confirmed that discussions included both flood management and ongoing developmental works.
The urgency of this meeting comes in the wake of the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the ruling BJP saw a significant drop in its seats, securing only 33 compared to 62 in 2019. The opposition INDIA bloc, including the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, gained considerable ground.

The by-elections are set to take place in the constituencies of Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar), Karhal (Mainpuri), Milkipur (Ayodhya), Meerapur (Muzaffarnagar), Ghaziabad, Majhawan (Mirzapur), Sisamau (Kanpur Nagar), Khair (Aligarh), Phulpur (Prayagraj), and Kundarki (Moradabad). These seats fell vacant largely due to MLAs resigning after winning in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
Prominent among the vacant seats is Karhal (Mainpuri), vacated by SP chief Akhilesh Yadav following his election to the Lok Sabha from Kannauj. Additionally, the Sisamau seat in Kanpur Nagar was declared vacant after SP’s Irfan Solanki’s disqualification due to a seven-year imprisonment sentence.
All Uttar Pradesh cabinet ministers and ministers of state were present at the meeting, reflecting the high stakes and comprehensive approach being adopted by the BJP to secure victory in the upcoming by-elections.
