NEW DELHI: Yogi Adityanath, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, urges academics to reinterpret Indian history from the viewpoint of Bharat and calls for a thorough reevaluation of the subject. In a conversation with a news channel, Yogi Adityanath highlights that comprehending India necessitates an awareness of its cultural legacy and spiritual traditions.

CM Adityanath asserted that those who attempt to comprehend India by means of external narratives, such as the “discovery of India,” are falling short. He contends that a better understanding may be attained by studying Indian spiritual traditions, such as those of Lord Ram and Shiv Shakti. He states, “Only those who will know about India’s spiritual traditions, the tradition of Lord Ram, Shiv Shakti, will be able to understand what is Bharat.”

The Chief Minister’s demand for a reexamination of history is in line with other Indian leader’s similar views. Indian history must be rewritten from an indigenous point of view, as Union Home Minister Amit Shah has repeatedly underlined. In 2019, Shah remarked, “It is our responsibility to write our history. How long are we going to blame the British? We don’t have to dispute anyone, only write what is truth and it will stand the test of time.”

Adityanath also discussed current events, such the recent disturbances in the Sambhal area of Uttar Pradesh. He sent a strong message to those who are causing community unrest, warning that anyone who tries to disturb the peace would face harsh consequences. He intends to restore unlawfully occupied Waqf lands and has a zero-tolerance attitude on land encroachments, likening such aspects to a “cancer” that requires “surgery.”

CM Adityanath also emphasized the importance of the forthcoming Mahakumbh in 2025, seeing it as a representation of Hindu and national togetherness. He emphasizes how Sanatan Dharma, which he feels transcends strict divides and exemplifies inclusion, is promoted by the event. He further continues that Mahakumbh traditionally is a time to think, analyse and take Sanatan forward.
