YSRCP leader and Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was present at the inauguration of the Infosys development centre

The new Infosys Development Centre will generate more than 1000 jobs; over 40% workforce to be women

Visakhapatnam: In a huge leap towards IT and services growth in Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today formally inaugurated the Infosys Development Centre, which was developed at a cost of Rs 35 crore at Madhurawada IT Hill in Visakhapatnam.

The newly developed Infosys Development Centre will employ over 1,000 people, with 40 per cent of the workforce being women.

CM Jagan welcomed Infosys’ move to open their office space in the “City of Destiny,” Visakhapatnam, which is the largest city in Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Jagan said, ‘Visakhapatnam has always had the potential, from AP, to become another Hyderabad and Bangalore as a Tier-1 city. In the undivided AP, the IT industry was largely concentrated in Hyderabad, the capital of the united AP. Unfortunately, following the division of AP, the state was left without a Tier-1 city, and it is Visakhapatnam that has the potential and capacity to develop into a Tier-1 city.’

Visakhapatnam boasts of eight universities, four medical colleges, 14 engineering colleges, and 12-degree colleges, including premier educational institutions such as IIM Visakhapatnam and National Law University, alongside Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Eastern Naval Command headquarters. It offers ample opportunities for all marquee IT firms to invest.

“With Infosys Foundation opening their Development Centre in Visakhapatnam, the doors are now wide open for IT giants like Wipro, TCS, and other MNCs to establish their office spaces in the ‘City of Destiny,’ ” the CM said.

The move aligns with a broader trend among IT companies shifting operations to Tier-II and Tier-III cities, as these locations offer advantages like lower operating costs and reduced attrition while allowing employees to work closer to their hometowns.

Nilanjan Roy, Chief Financial Officer, Infosys, said, “Aimed at bringing the workspace closer to Infoscions, this centre will further our approach towards creating hybrid workplaces, and also offer new opportunities to the local talent pool. Visakhapatnam has developed into a favourable investment destination, and we are very grateful to the State government of Andhra Pradesh for extending their support as we commence our operations here.”
