NEW DELHI: Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Monday claimed to have recovered USD 41,000, worth approximately Rs 33 lakh in Indian currency, concealed in the false bottom of a bag at the IGI airport.

A bag was detected at about 5 am at Terminal 3 at IGI. The passenger identified as Arjun Kumar Yadav bound for Bangkok via Kolkata by a SpiceJet flight (SG-8263) and from Kolkata by a connecting flight (SG-742), CISF said.

On strong suspicion, Yadav was diverted to a random checking point for thorough checking of his luggage. “During x-ray screening through the X-BIS machine of one of his bags, CISF personnel noticed a suspicious image in the false bottom of the bag. The matter was informed to senior officers of CISF and customs officials,” CISF said.

Yadav was brought to the customs office at departure where on thorough checking of his bag it was found to be containing USD 41000 worth approximately Rs 33 lakh. The currency was hidden in the false bottom of the bag.

On enquiry, he could not produce any valid document to carry such an amount of foreign currency. The passenger along with the detected currency worth approximately Rs 33 lakh was handed over to customs officials for further action in the matter, CISF said in the statement.
