Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has written to Twitter India to remove the content related to Indian minor girls, where their objectionable videos are being offered to be sold at ₹20. DCW also summoned Twitter India’s Policy Head regarding the tweets.

The commission has suspected it to be a racket that is being operated on the social media website. The commission has directed the Delhi Police to investigate such matters, which are easily available on Twitter.

DCW chief Swati Maliwal has claimed that the pictures and videos are being sold at ₹20 on various accounts. The DCW has also formed a committee to investigate the acts. The commission said the girls are between the ages of 5 and 10, and a lot of such videos are being put on Twitter.

“We have also summoned Twitter India Policy Head to explain why these videos were allowed on its platform. How the objectionable videos of Indian children are being put on Twitter,” Maliwal said.

She also said that she was shocked by the kinds of rape and child pornographic videos available freely on Twitter. “The videos depict the rape of children and women even while they are asleep! The nauseating material needs to be immediately removed from Twitter and an FIR should be registered by Delhi Police on the matter,” she said.

“Systems must be developed so that all such videos are immediately deleted and the perpetrators reported to the law enforcement agencies. Twitter must be held accountable for this filthy and objectionable content being available and even sold on its platform!” she added.

The commission has also raised the apprehension that hundreds of such objectionable videos openly displaying child pornography and rape are present on Twitter.

In the summons issued to Twitter, the commission has stated that it is deeply distressing that such illegal acts involving sexual abuse of children and young women are being publicized through the social media platform.

The commission has summoned Twitter officials to ascertain the steps being taken by them to prevent such filthy and outrightly criminal acts from being propagated through their medium as well as the systems in place on the platform to immediately report the same to law enforcement agencies.

The commission has also sought data regarding the number of such tweets presently available on Twitter. Furthermore, it has sought the number of tweets depicting child pornography and rape identified, deleted, and reported by Twitter in the past four years.
