NEW DELHI: “Chandu Champion,” starring Kartik Aaryan in the lead role, was released in theaters on June 14. It has gained praise from both critics and audiences. The movie portrays the life of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar, who survived a bullet while fighting in the 1965 Indo-Pak war and later received the Padma Shri award in 2018.
The New Indian talks to moviegoers outside a Delhi cinema theater and asks about the movie. Responding to the same, a viewer said, “The movie is very encouraging and inspiring. Every character played their part perfectly. It’s a complete package with no exaggeration.” Another family who came together to watch the movie said, “It’s a ten-on-ten movie. It didn’t bore us at any point in time. The encouragement of sports through the movie is incredible.”
Writer and director Kabir Khan is known for hitting the emotional chord of the audience. Movies like ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ are such examples of cross-border and nationalist genres. However, the movie collection in two days is not as grand as the previously mentioned movies of Kabir Khan in which Salman Khan was the main lead. The movie earned Rs 5.40 crore on the first day and Rs 7.70 crore on the second day. With this collection, the movie became the lowest opener at the box office even though the ticket price in the national capital was Rs 150 on the first day.
Kartik Aaryan’s acting and transformation in this movie is the talk of the town. While being asked about Aaryan’s performance in the movie, a viewer said, “This is the best performance of Kartik Aaryan to date.”
Petkar himself was in tears when he saw the film. Kartik has revealed that this is one of the toughest films of his career and something which he’s proud of. Looking at Kartik’s transformation, he has dropped his body fat percentage massively for the film. He was about 90 kgs when he began training for Chandu Champion; with the help of his trainer, he was able to reduce his weight to 72 kgs, dropping his body fat from 39% to 7%.
The sports biopic movie “Chandu Champion” also features Vijay Raaz, Bhuvan Arora, and Rajpal Yadav in pivotal roles.
