NEW DELHI: Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO Dr. Samir V Kamat said that cyber attacks have been rising exponentially every day and hence we need to continuously keep upgrading our technologies to fight any potential threat at the Bharat NCX 2023 organised together by the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) in strategic partnership with Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) on Friday.
The New Indian spoke to Dr Kamat about his views on India’s readiness to defend itself against cyber security at the time of changing strategy used in warfare.
“We are ready to defend ourselves but this is a very dynamic field. You can’t rest on your laurels. We have to continuously upgrade our technologies, skills as well as capacities. So this cyber security exercise is a good method to build our capabilities,” said the chairman of DRDO.
Dr Kamat also called the 300 participants, representing a diverse spectrum of government agencies, public organisations, and the private sector, ‘cyber warriors’.
He said “They are our future ‘cyber warriors’. They will protect our digital infrastructure and ensure that our economies grow.”
The participants were trained in various key cyber security areas such as Intrusion Detection Techniques, Malware Information Sharing Platform (MISP), Vulnerability Handling & Penetration Testing, Network Protocols & Data Flows, Digital Forensics, etc.
On the sidelines of the event, Col. Nidhish Bhatnagar, Director of Rashtriya Raksha University, also lauded the unwavering commitment of the Government of India to cybersecurity while speaking to The New Indian.
He highlighted the pivotal role of such initiatives in ensuring India’s cyber safety, particularly in an era characterised by extensive digitalisation and an expanded threat surface and also a step towards workforce development in cyber security.
“This event is at the behest of the Government of India and in line with the vision of the prime minister of India of Digital India, Surakshit India and Atmanirbhar India. This is one of our ways to ensure that the number of people trained in cyber security is huge.”
The 2nd Edition of the National Cyber Security Exercise 2023 ‘Bharat NCX 2023’ was conducted as a hybrid exercise over a period of twelve days from October 9 to 20.
AirChief Marshal VR Chaudhari, chief of air staff elaborated about how warfare has changed in the modern day.
“When I first wore my uniform four decades ago, warfare meant only kinetic one but this domain has come into my dictionary only a decade ago. We should focus on this so we not only protect our critical infrastructure but also counter our worst adversaries” he said during the valedictory session
