JAMMU: CCTV footage showing the moments leading up to the Reasi terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir has surfaced, providing insights into the sequence of events before the deadly assault that claimed 10 lives and injured many more.

The bus carrying pilgrims plunged into a deep gorge after an ambush by terrorists on Sunday. Terrorists opened fire at the bus when it was traveling from Shiv Khori temple to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine near Teryath village in the Poni area. The bus lost control and fell into the gorge following the gunfire.

The attack occurred as the bus approached a bend, a tactic observed in previous attacks in Rajouri and Poonch. Exploiting the slow speed of vehicles, terrorists unleashed indiscriminate fire to inflict maximum harm before retreating into dense foliage, a challenge that has become increasingly prevalent in the Jammu region. The dense, mountainous terrain provides cover for the attackers, granting them an advantage in evading detection.

A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has been dispatched to assist local authorities in investigating the attack. Security has been heightened in the area, with security forces using drones to search for the terrorists. Forces have been deployed at nearby combat outposts of the Indian Army, and additional reinforcements have been dispatched from various locations.

A search operation is currently underway. Earlier on Sunday, the injured were swiftly transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Local authorities, including senior police officials and security forces, responded promptly, cordoning off the area and initiating investigations.

On Sunday, Mohammad Bhat, DIG Reasi Udhampur range, and Rayees, also reached the scene. SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma indicated that initial reports suggested terrorists fired upon the passenger bus traveling from Shiv Khori to Katra.

“Due to the firing, the bus driver lost control, and the bus fell into the gorge. Thirty-three people were injured in the incident. The rescue operation has been completed. The identities of the passengers have not been confirmed yet, and they are not locals. Shiv Khori shrine has been secured, and area domination has been conducted,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reviewed the situation and instructed the Lt. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to monitor it closely. The J&K LG announced that those behind this heinous act will be punished soon. He added, “Hon’ble PM has also directed that all the injured receive the best possible medical care and assistance.”

The injured pilgrims are being treated at various hospitals in Jammu and Reasi,” stated the Office of the Lt. Governor.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the perpetrators of this dastardly attack will not be spared and will face the full force of the law. Expressing his sorrow on social media, Shah said, “Deeply pained by the attack on pilgrims in Reasi, J&K. Spoke to the Lieutenant Governor and the DGP, J&K, and inquired about the incident.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the attack on the bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi, calling it extremely reprehensible. Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad also condemned the militant attack on the pilgrim bus in Ransoo, Reasi.
