SRINAGAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at the Labour and Employment Department’s office in the Civil Secretariat, Srinagar, as part of an ongoing corruption investigation.
A team of CBI officials from Chandigarh and Srinagar is carrying out the operation at the office of Labour Secretary Kumar Rajeev Ranjan.
Case Details & Investigation Timeline
According to high-level sources, the raid is linked to a corruption case registered under FIR No. RC0512025S0003 on February 17, 2025. The probe, however, dates back to 2006, when preliminary inquiries into the alleged irregularities first began.
The case has been filed under the Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act along with relevant sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
Previous Case: Arms License Scam
This is not the first time Ranjan has faced scrutiny. In December 2024, the central government granted prosecution sanction to the CBI against him in connection with the Jammu and Kashmir arms license scam.
Ranjan, who previously served as the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Jammu, was one of nine IAS officers accused of illegally issuing arms licenses in exchange for financial gains.
These permits were allegedly granted to individuals who did not meet the eligibility criteria, raising serious concerns about security and procedural violations.
