New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested two more individuals, including a key accused, in the NEET-UG paper leak case. With these arrests, the total number of apprehended individuals has reached 14.

A senior CBI official revealed that Pankaj Kumar Singh, a civil engineer from Patna, and Raju Singh from Hazaribagh were arrested following a tip-off. Pankaj is believed to have played a central role in orchestrating the paper leak. The breach reportedly occurred during the transportation of the exam papers in iron trunks from Hazaribagh.

“Pankaj is a 2017-batch civil engineer from the National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur. Our probe has revealed that he stole the NEET-UG paper from the National Testing Agency (NTA) trunk in Hazaribagh,” a source said. Raju, who assisted Pankaj, was also arrested by the agency.

The CBI registered a case on Thursday against unknown accused persons under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), based on a complaint from the Secretary, Department of Education, Government of India.

The complaint alleged that on June 19, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. These inputs suggested that the integrity of the UGC-NET 2024 Examination, conducted by the NTA in two shifts across various cities, might have been compromised.
