CBI Arrests RITES Officers In Graft Case

CBI has lodged an FIR against 73 foreign medical graduates and 14 state medical councils

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday said that it has arrested two officials of the Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited (RITES) and an employee of the private company in a graft case of Rs 2.72 lakh.

A CBI spokesperson here said that the agency has arrested Abhay Kumar, a General Manager (Project) and Kumar Rajiv Ranjan, Senior Deputy General Manager (Project), RITES, both posted in Jharkhand’s Ranchi.

He said that the agency also arrested Sashi Kumar, an Employee of Hardev Construction Pvt.Ltd, based in Jharkhand’s Deoghar.

The official said that the agency registered a case on June 2 against Abhay Kumar, Kumar Rajiv Ranjan, two private persons including Avtar Singh, Owner of Hardev Construction Pvt. Ltd and unknown others on the allegations that the accused conspired together for collection or payment of illegal gratification to the said public servants in the matter of the tender awarded to Joint Venture (JV) company.

He said that in the FIR it was alleged that the employee of the said private company handed over the undue advantage to Senior Dy GM, RITES and the said bribe money was subsequently handed over to the GM, RITES.

“The bribe amount of Rs 2.72 lakh was recovered from the possession of said GM. All the three accused were caught by CBI,” he said.

The official said that the agency carried out searches at 12 places in Ranchi, Patna, Deoghar, Gurgaon, Ramgarh etc at the premises of the accused which led to the recovery of cash of Rs 65.5 lakh, property documents and other incriminating documents.
