New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday said that it has arrested two absconders in connection with a post-poll violence case in West Bengal.

A CBI spokesperson said that the agency has arrested Rahul Dey and Sourav Dey, in connection with the death of Avijit Sarkar resident of Kolkata. The two arrested are among 12 absconders in a case in which 20 accused have been charge-sheeted.

The CBI had registered a case on August 25 last year on the orders of Calcutta High Court.

The police then registered a case against 7 to 8 “unknown” accused on the allegations that they attacked the victim with sticks and caused the destruction of household articles. The victim was rescued in a “brutally beaten” condition. He was later shifted to a hospital.

The CBI filed a charge sheet against 20 accused on September 30 last year.

Upon the arrest, the two accused were later produced before a court in Kolkata and remanded to two days CBI custody, the official said.
