Bengal Rots: After Arpita-Partha, 3 Cong MLAs Caught With Cash

KOLKATA: In yet another eye-popping money seizure, West Bengal Police on Saturday recovered a huge amount of cash stashed in a luxury car in which three Congress MLAs from Jharkhand were travelling.

Irfan Ansari, MLA from Jamtara, Rajesh Kachhap, MLA from Khijri and Naman Bixal, MLA from Kolebira were travelling in the black Toyota vehicle and are now being interrogated Panchla Police Station.

The car is registered in Jharkhand and bears the name plate of Ansari.

Meanwhile, the police have brought in counting machines to count the recovered cash.

Ruling Trinamool Congress, which faced massive backlash from the public and political parties alike over seizure of huge amounts of cash in the teacher recruitment scam, was quick to jump in.

“Amidst murmurs of horse-trading and the possible toppling of the Jharkhand Govt. 3 @INCJharkhand were found carrying huge sums of cash to Bengal. What is the source of this money? Will any Central Agency take suo moto cognizance? Or do the rules apply to a select few,” tweeted the party.

Jharkhand BJP leaders too slammed the coalition government in the state. “Corruption is on the rise under this incumbent government,” Jharkhand BJP general secretary Aditya Sahu said.

The seizure comes days after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seizure more than Rs 50 crore in cash and jewellery from the two flats of sacked Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee’s aide Arpita Mukherjee in the teacher recruitment scam.
