NOIDA: A 61-year-old Delhi High Court advocate has been murdered allegedly by her husband – a retired IIS (Indian Information Services) officer – over a property dispute in Sector-30, Noida.
Renu Sinha was strangled to death by her husband Nitin Nath Sinha, who hid himself in the store of the house for hours before being caught by the Noida Police.
The matter came to fore when advocate Renu’s brother raised alarm after she failed to respond to his calls multiple times on Sunday. He informed the local police who broke open the door in his presence. The dead body was recovered from the bathroom.
Police said Renu was earlier suffering from cancer and completed her recovery last month.
DCP (Noida) Harish Chandra said the body was sent for the post-mortem examination and the investigations were started. “Her brother raised suspicion on her husband Nitin Nath Sinha who was missing from the house. The mobile phone of Sinha was also not reachable,” said Chandra.
It was suspected that Sinha might be involved in the murder. In the wee hour, the house was searched thoroughly where Sinha was found hiding in the store room.
Renu was practicing in the high court while her husband had taken voluntary retirement from the post of deputy director. Their son lives in some foreign country, who is now informed about the incident.
Police said the couple would fight over the sale of the bungalow in which the duo lived. As per initial interrogation, Sinha said he killed his wife in a fit of rage during a quarrel.
On Sunday, they had a fight after the Sinha brought a broker to their house for inspection. He wanted to sell the house over Rs 4.5 crores. Earlier, he had taken Rs 55 lakh as the token money from the broker as well, said police.
During the fight, Sinha allegedly beat up Renu and later strangled her to death. He dumped the body in the bathroom.
