Bus accident claims 38 lives, injures 19 in J&K’s Doda

The bus accident has resulted in many being left critically wounded

SRINAGAR: In a devastating incident, a passenger bus plunged into a deep gorge in the Assar area of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday morning, resulting in the loss of 38 lives, while leaving 19 others injured.

According to officials, the bus skidded off the road, leading to the tragic accident. Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations.

As of now, 38 people have lost their lives, and 19 are reported to be injured. Critically injured individuals have been airlifted to Jammu for urgent medical attention.

Expressing his grief over the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the family of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) conveyed the message through a post on social media.

“The bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is distressing. My condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. Ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured,” read the PMO’s statement.

 

Union Home Minister also expressed sorrow over the tragic incident, stating on social media, “Deeply anguished to learn about the loss of precious lives due to a tragic bus accident at Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. The local administration is conducting the rescue operation in the gorge where the bus had the accident. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

 

Lt Governor Jammu & Kashmir Manoj Sinha extended his condolences, saying, “Extremely pained by the loss of lives in a tragic bus accident in Assar, Doda. My heartfelt condolences to bereaved families & and wishing for a speedy recovery of those injured in the accident. Directed Div Com & District Admin to provide all necessary assistance to affected persons.”
