NEW DELHI: India made a stunning recovery on Day 2 of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, after a dramatic collapse in their first innings. Resuming with a strong start, India lost their way, quickly crumbling to 151 all out. Despite the collapse, India’s bowlers responded spectacularly, with captain Jasprit Bumrah leading the charge. The Indian skipper’s brilliant performance with the ball saw him take 5 wickets, restricting Australia to just 104 runs by the end of the first session. With a commanding lead of 218 runs, India now has the upper hand heading into Day 3.

Bumrah’s spell was nothing short of exceptional, and he played a pivotal role in turning the game around for India. His relentless pace and accuracy dismantled Australia’s top order, leaving the hosts in a precarious position. India’s bowlers, particularly Bumrah, showed tremendous skill and discipline to capitalize on the early breakthroughs. The Aussie side, which had struggled to get going, now found themselves on the back foot, trailing by a substantial margin.

As Australia’s first innings ended in disarray, India’s batters came out with a calm and composed approach in their second innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, who had been central to India’s recovery earlier, continued their fine form. Jaiswal, unbeaten on 90*, and Rahul, on 62*, showed excellent resilience and determination to steady the ship. The pair’s partnership has been a highlight, and their approach has been one of patience and careful shot selection. Jaiswal, in particular, has impressed with his maturity and composure, building on his promising start.

Commentators were quick to praise the Indian performances on Day 2. Ravi Shastri hailed Bumrah’s exceptional leadership and bowling, stating, “Bumrah’s performance today was nothing short of exceptional. He turned the game around for India.” Matthew Hayden also lauded KL Rahul’s contribution, noting, “KL Rahul’s innings has been crucial in stabilizing the innings after the collapse. He’s shown great composure.” Simon Taufel, focusing on Jaiswal, added, “Yashasvi Jaiswal’s knock is a testament to his potential. He’s been solid and reliable at the crease.”

India’s remarkable turnaround has placed them in a dominant position, and as they head into Day 3, they will look to build on their lead and push for victory. With the bowlers having done their job and the batsmen showing resilience, India will feel confident about extending their advantage as they continue their fight for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
