A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was allegedly beaten to death in the Nadiad district of Gujarat after he raised objection to an obscene video of his daughter which was circulated online. His son was also critically injured.

The incident took place when the BSF jawan, Meljibhai Vaghela, went to the house of a 15-year-old boy, and complained to his family about his daughter’s objectionable video being circulated online by the boy. Vaghela went there with his son Navdeep and his wife.

The incident took place on December 24 at about 10 pm in Kheda of Nadiad district. Waghela, 45, posted as Hawaldar in BSF’s 56 battalion in Mehsana, along with his son Navdeep and nephew Chirag had gone to question one Sunil Jadav, for allegedly uploading an objectionable video of his daughter on the social media.

“The altercation soon turned into a heated argument then into an ugly fight,” said a Gujarat Police Officer.

According to the FIR, Sunil’s father Dinesh Jadav and other family members were present in the house. The FIR said Dinesh first attacked Waghela and his sons with a stick. He was later joined by other family members as well.

Two women – Kailashben and Shantaben – also joined the attackers and abused Waghela and his sons for falsely accusing their son for uploading the video on social media.

Police said the other attackers are identified as Arvind Jadav, Sachin Arvind Jadav, Bhavesh Jadav and Chhababhai Jadav. The police have arrested seven accused including two women following a complaint by Waghela family members.

Waghela and Jadav live in the same locality and their children study in the same school, said police. Police also said the girl and boy were friends as they study in the same school.

Police also said that after the attack, some of the accused fled from the scene. They were later arrested by a team of local police.

After the attack, the injured were rushed to Nadiad district hospital where doctors declared Waghela was brought dead while his son is recuperating. His son sustained critical injuries in his head.
