In a heart-wrenching incident that could remind Indians of the 2012 gruesome Nirbhaya of gang-rape, a 38-year-old woman from Delhi was allegedly kidnapped, gang-raped and dumped on the roadside by five men in Ghaziabad on Tuesday. An iron rod was also inserted into her private parts.
The survivor was abducted when she was returning from a party at her brother’s home in Ghaziabad near Delhi, said Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal who has issued a notice to the Ghaziabad Police seeking an action-taken report.
As per Ghaziabad Police, the survivor and the accused were embroiled in a property dispute. The woman is a resident of East Delhi.
Four people have been detained and are being questioned in the case, said the police.
A case has been registered in Ghaziabad on the basis of a complaint received from her brother. “She was found lying on the roadside at Ashram Road in Nandgram area of the city in the wee hours of Tuesday,” said Ghaziabad SP (City) Nipun Aggarwal.
The woman is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi.
In her statement, the survivor told the police that she was abducted by two men in Ghaziabad in a Scorpio car. Three more men later joined them and took turns raping her.
“The woman was known to the accused. They are fighting a legal battle over a property dispute,” said Aggarwal, adding that the police are “still verifying facts”.
According to the Delhi Commission for Women, the five accused raped and tortured her for two days. “They even inserted an iron rod inside her private parts. Thereafter, they hid her in a jute bag and threw her out on a road. The woman was found in a very serious condition in a pool of blood, with the iron rod still inside her,” it said.
Calling the matter a “serious one”, DCW chief Maliwal compared it with the Nirbhaya case and demanded punishment for the accused at the earliest.
