NEW DELHI: Indiaโ€™s โ€˜showmanโ€™ director Subhash Ghai was officially invited to the consecration ceremony of Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22, that witnessed a congregation of esteemed dignitaries from various strata of society.

The director, who has given hits like โ€˜Heroโ€™, โ€˜Khalnayakโ€™, โ€˜Pardesโ€™ and โ€˜Taalโ€™ while speaking to The New Indianโ€™s Executive Editor Rohan Dua, shared that Ramayana, the epic of Lord Ram, has shaped him, his movies and stories. โ€œThis is Indiaโ€™s historic day. I think Bharatโ€™s journey has begun again. What the Prime Minister said while addressing the public was absolutely correct since when a child will hear about Lord Ramโ€™s values and virtues, these little ones will also follow the same,โ€ he said.

He further spoke about remembering his mother reciting him Ramayana in childhood while there was chanting of mantras during the consecration ceremony performed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ghai told TNI, โ€œWhen I was listening to the chanting of mantras at the consecration ceremony, I reminisced about my mother reciting Ramayana in Sanskrit in my childhood. She taught me about values. Thatโ€™s why, the influence of Ramayana runs very deep into my movies, my stories, and on me as well.โ€
