NEW DELHI: Sonipat Police on Friday rushed to register an FIR on charges of murder after an unknown man was found hanging, with his hand chopped off, allegedly by Nihang Sikhs who had gathered at the site of farmers protest in Kundli, triggering national outrage.

Several videos have surfaced where Nihang Sikh men and women gathered near the protest site led by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) — a farmers union outfit formed against passing of three Union agriculture bills — are seen raising loud slogans, accusing the victim of desecration of the holy book Guru Granth Sahib.
Nihangs are being accused of killing the man after first cutting his wrist and hanging him on to a barricade.
In its FIR, a copy of which has been accessed by The New Indian team, the Haryana police have said that none of the Nihang Sikhs were willing to disclose the identity of their representative who tied the victim or chopped off his hands, leading to his death in full public view.
“Yes, somebody’s hand has been chopped off. And unfortunately the person has died. We are yet to unravel the entirety of the incident. It will be a bit premature to lay out what has exactly happened,” Sandeep Khirwar, IGP, Sonipat Range, told The New Indian.
We have registered a case and we will take appropriate action and will find out the people behind it.
Meanwhile, farmers at the site are claiming that the unidentified man was sent by someone to desecrate the holy Guru Granth Sahib and was paid Rs 30,000 for it.
ASI Kundli police station, Pradip Kumar had arrived at the crime scene in the morning, the FIR states.
The body was sent for post-mortem and the matter is being investigated.
