Body Of Missing U’khand Doc Found After One Month

The body of Dr Kumar recovered from Tarsar lake in the Anantnag district

DEHRADUN: The body of a doctor from Nainital district who went missing on June 22 was found on Sunday in Tarsar lake of Anantnag district of Kashmir.

Dr Roshan, colleague and friend of Dr Mahesh Kumar whose body was found by police on Sunday said, “We were hoping to find him alive someday but now that hope has been dashed. Only thing is that we have got closure now.”

The aggrieved family left for Kashmir to get the body to perform his last rites.

Dr Kumar, who runs a hospital in Haldwani city of Nainital district in Uttarakhand, was on a trekking trip with a group in Pahalgam of Kashmir.

After the group of 17 which included three guides reached Pahalgam on June 18, they got trapped due to heavy rains for three days.

The group decided to cross a bridge on Tarsar lake in the area on June 22 which got washed away engulfing the doctor and his guide Shakeel Ahmed who was a local resident.

The body of Ahmed was recovered on June 23, a day after they both went missing.

A combined team of National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force and police was deployed for search and rescue operations immediately after the incident.

Dr Kumar, a well-known surgeon, is also known for his penchant for trekking trips and adventurous expeditions.
