NEW DELHI: Mihir Shah, a 24-year-old, allegedly drove a BMW into a couple on a two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area. He is the son of Rajesh Shah, a leader from Shiv Sena’s Eknath Shinde faction.
The incident occurred early on Sunday when Kaveri Nakhava, 45, and her husband Pradip were returning home after buying fish from Sassoon Dock. Kaveri was fatally injured in the collision, succumbing to her injuries at Nair Hospital. Mihir fled the scene after the crash.
The Worli Police have detained Rajesh Shah, the car owner and a local Shiv Sena leader in Palghar. They have also apprehended the driver suspected to have been with Mihir at the time of the accident.
Mihir Shah, 24, is the son of Rajesh Shah, the deputy leader of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction). Mihir, who studied only until Class 10, assisted his father in their construction and real estate business in Maharashtra.

During the incident, Mihir allegedly drove the BMW car, accompanied by Rajrishi Bidawat, now in police custody. The BMW was later found abandoned in Kala Nagar, Bandra East. According to Mumbai police, Mihir left the car in Bandra and fled in an auto-rickshaw, while Rajrishi also took an auto-rickshaw to Borivali after the accident.
An initial probe suggests Mihir visited his girlfriend’s house before fleeing, prompting police to question her involvement. Rajesh Shah was detained as the BMW was registered under his name. Hours before the crash, Mihir and friends visited a pub, where he reportedly consumed only Red Bull. Police are investigating whether Mihir was intoxicated during the incident.
He faces charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sahita, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash and negligent driving endangering human life, endangering life and personal safety, and committing mischief causing loss and damage.
In response, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized the equal application of the law, promising no special treatment in this case. He instructed the police to take strict action, stressing the gravity of the incident and ensuring accountability.
