NEW DELHI – A powerful explosion near the CRPF School in Prashant Vihar, Rohini, early this morning has left the local community in shock. The blast, which occurred at approximately 7:40 AM, caused significant damage to a nearby shop, the school wall, and a parked car. According to reports, the explosion was so intense that it left a large hole in the boundary wall of the school. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
The explosion was captured on a 17-second CCTV footage that has since gone viral on social media. The video shows two cars parked along the roadside when, after about 15 seconds, a sudden and intense blast occurs, filling the area with thick white smoke and momentarily blurring the camera’s view. The sound of the explosion was loud and alarming, leaving many in the vicinity shaken by its intensity and damaging the windows and signboards of shops located directly in front of the school.
Delhi Police, along with forensic experts and the National Security Guard (NSG), are actively investigating the incident. A senior police officer reported that a cloud of smoke was seen rising immediately after the blast. Forensic teams have recovered a suspicious white powder from the site, which has been sent for laboratory analysis. Soil samples from a small crater near the school wall have also been collected.
The police are analyzing mobile network data to identify individuals who were present near the site at the time of the explosion. Preliminary investigations suggest that an improvised explosive device (IED) might have caused the blast; however, the possibility of a locally-made bomb has not been ruled out.
Delhi Police have questioned the individual who made the PCR call about the incident. The caller revealed that he was at home, asleep, when he was suddenly awakened by the deafening noise of the blast. Acting swiftly, he contacted the police.
The area remains cordoned off by the NSG, NIA, and Delhi Police. Security has been heightened across the city, especially with ongoing festival celebrations. A case has been registered under the Explosives Act against unknown individuals, but the exact type of explosive used remains unidentified at this stage. Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the explosion.
Residents of Prashant Vihar are understandably shaken by the incident. However, the swift response from law enforcement and the absence of casualties have provided some relief. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
