SRINAGAR: National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah has said that the Congress needs to introspect and analyze the reasons behind its recent electoral setbacks in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
He said that the BJP’s success in three states should be attributed more to the shortcomings of the Congress party rather than a failure of the INDIA alliance.
While talking to reporters on the sidelines of the 118th birth anniversary of his grandfather and NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Omar Abdullah said “Instead of going to the Supreme Court, Congress needs to analyze the reasons because some people saw the writing on the wall earlier,” he said, pointing out the need for political foresight in gauging the sentiments of the electorate.”

Omar said, “The INDIA alliance itself did not face defeat in these elections. Instead, he suggested that certain statements had surfaced, warranting discussion and resolution.
Omar pointed out that the state elections were contested independently by different political parties rather than as a united front.
He stressed that the setback should be seen as a setback for the Congress at an individual level, not for the broader alliance.
The leaders of the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc are scheduled to meet at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Delhi on December 6 to chalk out a strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. As per the media reports, the leaders are likely to discuss and finalise their plan to unitedly take on the BJP ahead of the Parliament elections.

Omar also said that the NC, which is part of the alliance, had indeed received an invitation for the meeting. However, he declined to comment on whether Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had received a similar intimation.

Earlier today, the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference celebrated Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s 118th birth anniversary.
Led by NC Vice President Omar Abdullah, the party leaders and workers held a commemorative function at the mausoleum of Sheikh Abdullah at Naseem Bagh on the banks of the Dal Lake here to mark the occasion.
