NEW DELHI: Union Minister Kaushal Kishore on Friday said that he would organise a mega ideological convention in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Constitution in order to fulfill his mission.

The minister of state for housing and urban affairs said that about 2,000 delegates will be participating in the convention on April 13 at Gandhi Bhawan in Lucknow. Some top leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the ruling BJP will also be there.

Addressing a press conference here, Kishore lamented at Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati for not working to fulfill the dreams of Dr BR Ambedkar.

He said, “The mission of Dr Ambedkar was betrayed as those who took the charge to fulfill his dreams didn’t work towards it.”

The BJP leader said that Dr Ambedkar was not only messiah of Dalits but for all sections of society.

Targeting the BSP, he said, “In UP, BSP formed government four times but they didn’t fulfill the mission of Dr Ambedkar. And the people who stood with BSP and Mayawati left them.”

“People shifted away from BSP after betrayal,” he charged.

“Even the Samajwadi Party, formed government in 2012 but they focused on making boundaries of graveyards. Thus the trust of backward communities was broken,” he said.

Sharing plans of the BJP government, he said, “On April 13, 2,000 delegates will be in Lucknow to participate in a programme to hold a discussion on the ideology of Dr Ambedkar.”

He said that the delegates will be submitting a fee of Rs 200, adding that the convention would be held in Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP retained its government in recently-held assembly elections, so that “people are not cheated again”.

He said the Modi government had developed five places linked to the life of Dr Ambedkar, including his birthplace in Mahu. “In Nagpur, where Dr Ambedkar got education, Indu Mill in Mumbai where he resided, the house in London and the place in Delhi where he died — all have been preserved”, he added.

He also asserted that the BJP had a major role to uplift the people from Dalit and backward community by bringing pro-poor schemes like housing scheme, gas, and toilets.

“These schemes are meant to fulfill the aspirations of Dr Ambedkar,” he said.
