NEW DELHI: Along with the loksabha elections 2024, the Assembly election in Arunachal Pradesh took place. On June 2, the Election Commission declared the results of the Assembly elections in the state. The BJP returned to power in Arunachal Pradesh for the third term, winning 46 out of the 60 seats in the Assembly constituencies.

The counting of votes concluded in the 50 seats for which elections were held in the northeastern Indian state on April 19. The BJP won the remaining 10 seats unopposed.

The National People’s Party (NPP) won 5 seats, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured 3 seats, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) won 2 seats, the Congress won 1 seat, and 3 seats were won by independent candidates.

In comparison, the 2019 election results saw the BJP win 41 seats, the JD(U) secure 7 seats, the NPP win 5 seats, the Congress win 4 seats, and the PPA win 1 seat. Two independent candidates also emerged victorious in 2019.

The BJP’s increased vote share and seat tally in 2024 indicate growing acceptance among the electorate for their governance model, development initiatives, and local issue-focused campaigning.

In the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, 31 seats are required for a majority. The BJP significantly increased its already large vote share in the 2024 Arunachal Pradesh Assembly election, from 50.86% in 2019 to 54.57% in 2024.

Last month, during an interaction with Rohan Dua, Executive Editor of The New Indian, CM Pema Khandu said that, ‘the northeast was earlier known for its underdevelopment and corruption, but now this narrative has been changed by the current central government of the BJP.’

After results on Jun 2, CM Pema khandu posted on X (Formly known as Twitter), “I bow in gratitude to the great people of Arunachal Pradesh for their continued trust in the vision of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji and sincere efforts of Team Arunachal in taking care of the well-being of every section of society.”
