BJP slams Kejriwal’s lavish spending on bungalow, demands transparency

NEW DELHI – The Delhi BJP has raised fresh concerns over alleged extravagance in the renovation of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s official bungalow. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva revealed that an inventory list of the residence at 6 Flagstaff Road, Civil Lines, has sparked widespread discussion in both the media and on social platforms, shedding light on the luxurious upgrades funded by public money.

According to Sachdeva, the list reveals shocking figures, with toilet seats alone reportedly valued at ₹1 crore, sanitary fittings surpassing ₹15 crore, and decorative items costing over ₹5 crore. He questioned how such massive sums were spent, stating, “For half of Delhi’s population, owning a ₹1 crore house is a distant dream, yet Kejriwal’s bungalow had toilet seats worth that amount, which have now gone missing.”

The inventory also lists curtains priced at ₹5.6 crore and sofas worth several lakhs, further adding to the luxury of the fully air-conditioned residence. In addition, Sachdeva highlighted the installation of high-end appliances such as steam ovens, microwaves, coffee machines, and washing machines, which he claimed are far beyond the financial reach of the average citizen.

In a direct appeal to Chief Minister Atishi Marlena, Sachdeva demanded that she take a moral stance by inviting media personnel from various sectors to inspect the bungalow and publicly reveal all the items listed in the inventory before moving into the residence.

While the BJP acknowledges that a Chief Minister’s residence should be modern and well-equipped, Sachdeva condemned the excessive spending, calling it a “waste of public money under the guise of amenities.”

With growing pressure, the BJP is pushing for full transparency surrounding the lavish expenses, urging the Delhi government to address these concerns and disclose all details related to the bungalow’s costly fittings and furnishings
