BJP set for historic third term in Haryana with Saini at helm

NEW DELHI – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised for a historic third term in Haryana, with Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini set to continue leading the state. Despite earlier speculation about a potential leadership change, the BJP leadership has confirmed Saini’s position, dispelling any doubts about his future role.

As the election results unfold, the BJP is leading in 49 out of 90 seats, significantly ahead of the Congress, which trails with leads in just 36 constituencies. This strong performance underscores the party’s strategic success and Saini’s effective leadership.

Saini, a member of the Other Backward Classes (OBC), has been an unconventional choice in a state traditionally led by Jat leaders. His rise to power came just 200 days before the election, following a strategic reshuffle aimed at countering anti-incumbency sentiment. His predecessor, Manohar Lal Khattar, was moved to a Union Ministerial role, paving the way for Saini to take the reins with Khattar’s support.

During his brief tenure, Saini has introduced several key initiatives that have resonated with voters. The Haryana Agniveer Policy 2024, designed to create job and entrepreneurial opportunities for Agniveers, has addressed concerns over the central government’s Agniveer scheme. Additionally, Saini launched free medical tests for underprivileged citizens in government hospitals and eliminated minimum electricity charges, measures that have been particularly popular among voters.

The BJP’s strategy to consolidate its non-Jat voter base appears to have paid off. The party is leading in 17 out of 33 Jat-dominated constituencies, while the Congress is ahead in only 14. Furthermore, the BJP is performing well in Scheduled Caste-dominated areas, leading in nine out of 17 seats, and is also ahead in all seven bellwether constituencies.

This broad support across various voter demographics has positioned the BJP strongly for another term in Haryana, reinforcing its dominance in the state’s political landscape. As the BJP looks set to secure a third consecutive term, Nayab Singh Saini’s leadership and the party’s strategic initiatives have resonated with the electorate, paving the way for continued governance under his leadership.
