LUCKNOW: Hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to repeal the three farm laws in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav alleged that it was being done eyeing the “vote bank” politics as Bharatiya Janata Party is sensing defeat in upcoming state elections.

The SP chief made the remarks at a press conference here at the party headquarters.

After the press conference, speaking to media, Akhilesh Yadav said, “The three farm laws are being withdrawn and I want to thank the farmers and SP workers who stood with them against the Bill due to which the government has to repeal the three farm laws.”

Yadav said that the government should help the families of farmers who have lost their lives during the protest in last one year.

During the press conference, he also said that the farmers have fought a long battle with the government and it is their victory.

He also said that farmers would not forgive and will wipe BJP out of power in the state.

“Laws have been withdrawn for votes as government is scared of elections. What if they bring back such laws after polls? They are not thinking about farmers. They have insulted farmers at every level. WiIl BJP apologise?” Akhilesh questioned.

Targeting the government, Yadav said:

Not just the (Union) cabinet but entire government should resign. The minister who has allegations against him in connection with Lakhimpur violence case is still in the ministry

“Who will assure that there won’t be any such laws (farm laws) in future?” he asked.

He also asked if the government was really serious about the farmers, when it is going to bring the MSP bill for the farmers.

When asked about the alliance with the RLD in the state, he said the party will make a formal announcement soon.

Earlier in the day, Modi on the occasion of Gurpurab addressed the nation and announced that his government is going to repeal the three farm laws in the upcoming session of Parliament later this month.

Hundreds of farmers from western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana have been protesting at several borders of the national capital since November 26 last year demanding the repealing of three farm laws. More than 600 farmers have allegedly lost their lives during the protest.
