NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its third list of candidates for the upcoming Delhi Legislative Assembly elections 2025, scheduled for February 5. This latest announcement features a single candidate: Mohan Singh Bisht, who will contest the Mustafabad constituency.
Mohan Singh Bisht, a seasoned politician and six-time MLA, initially expressed dissatisfaction after being denied a ticket from his traditional stronghold, Karawal Nagar. The BJP had chosen to field Kapil Mishra, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, in that constituency. Bisht publicly criticized the party’s decision, labeling it a “big mistake” and suggesting it could have adverse effects on the election results.

In response to Bisht’s concerns, senior BJP leaders, including party chief JP Nadda, engaged in discussions to address the situation. These deliberations led to the decision to field Bisht from the Mustafabad seat, a move aimed at leveraging his extensive political experience and influence in the region.
The BJP’s candidate selection process for the Delhi elections has been strategic, focusing on both seasoned politicians and fresh faces. In its first list, released on January 4, 2025, the party announced 29 candidates, followed by a second list of 29 candidates on January 11, 2025. The inclusion of Bisht in the third list brings the total number of declared candidates to 59, with 11 constituencies yet to have candidates announced.

The Mustafabad constituency holds significant importance for the BJP. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, the party secured a victory in Mustafabad, one of the few seats it won amid a dominant performance by the AAP. By fielding a veteran like Bisht, the BJP aims to consolidate its position and retain the constituency in the forthcoming elections.
The Delhi Legislative Assembly elections are a critical battleground for major political parties, including the BJP, AAP, and the Indian National Congress (INC). The BJP’s candidate selection reflects its strategy to balance experience with new entrants, aiming to enhance its appeal across diverse voter demographics.
As the election date approaches, all eyes are on the remaining candidate announcements and the ensuing campaign strategies. The BJP’s efforts to address internal dissent and present a united front will be pivotal in its quest to improve its standing in the Delhi Assembly.
