The Pasmanda Samaj will hold a huge rally on Sunday in presence of several BJP bigwigs.

Thousands of people from the Muslim community will participate in the rally.

BJP State President Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, Cabinet Minister Dharampal Singh, Forest Minister Dr Arun Kumar and many MPs and MLAs will also participate in the Nehru Yuva Kendra rally at 12 noon.

It is believed that this is a big effort on part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to connect with Muslims before the Rampur Sadar assembly bypolls in Uttar Pradesh on December 5.

On November 12, Saturday, BJP leader and UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak gave a blazing speech to woo the Pasmanda Muslim community of the constituency highlighted Prime minister Narendra Modi’s objective of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas. He said that PM Modi is working to empower the Pasmanda community, a word used by the backward, Dalit and tribal Muslims to identify the caste discrimination that plagues the community.

“Prime Minister Modi was the one who said that in the Muslim society, the Dalit Muslims, the backward people, the deprived people, the brothers and sisters, their living standards have to be raised,” Pathak said while addressing the rally.

The BJP had won Rampur and Azamgarh constituencies in the Lok Sabha bypolls earlier this year. The Rampur Vidhan Sabha assembly constituency seat fell vacant on October 27 after the disqualification of Azam Khan following his conviction in a hate speech case.

This is not the first time that BJP wants to reach out to Muslims before elections. In 2019, the BJP-led government did pass the Triple Talaq law in Parliament under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill. Through this, divorce through instant triple talaq was made illegal, void, and could attract a jail term of three years for the husband. The groundbreaking law gave new hope to Muslim women across India who felt chained in their domestic lives.
