BJP MP Locket Chatterjee Files Complaint Against Akhil Giri For Insulting President Murmu

BJP Lok Sabha MP Locket Chatterjee on Sunday filed a police complaint against TMC Minister Akhil Giri for allegedly hurting sentiments of women and scheduled tribes for his objectionable comments on the President of India Draupadi Murmu.

Giri, Minister of State, Correctional Administration (independent charge) West Bengal, while addressing a gathering, stated “we do not judge anyone with his face… we respect the chair of president…. but what does she look like?”.

He was delivering his speech in Bengali in Nandigram in which he said : “Dekhta bhalo noi. Aha-ha-ki ruposhil. Amra ruper bichar kori na. Tomar Rasthrapati kamon dekhta baba!”.

In the complaint which Chatterjee has given to the North Avenue Police station, she said : “The video of Giri which is circulated on social media is extremely derogatory, lewd, hurtful and disgraceful comments against the Hon’ble President of India Droupadi Murmu, with an intention to mock, insult, demean, humiliate, abuse and disrespect the President of India, with the intention to not only denigrate the post of President of India, but also to insult her as an woman, and particularly as a woman from the Schedule Tribe community of India.”

Chatterjee, who is also a Chairman of Standing Committee on Food Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, further said in her complaint that such comments made by Akhil Girl have outraged the modesty of a woman, and in particular a woman occupying an eminent position, who belongs to the Scheduled Tribe Community, and these comments have denigrated her entire tribe community.

“Giri by making said statements with vivid gestures, has said in a tone laced with mockery and sarcasm, and in complete disdain, and being oblivious to the prestige and dignity of the chair of the President of India, as well as the dignity of women belonging to the Scheduled Tribe community, has defamed and insulted the Hon’ble Droupadi Murmu, the President of India.

“Such action of Akhil Giri not only reflects a cheap mentality but also promotes feeling of enmity, hatred and ill-will against a member of the Scheduled Tribe community,” said Chatterjee in her complaint.

She further said such action of Giri is not only harmful for society but also for the country, since it insults a woman from the Scheduled Tribe community in a manner where it incites and promotes disharmony and feelings of enmity, hatred and ill-will against the Scheduled Tribe community of India.

She requested the police to take immediate action and treat her complaint as an FIR and take necessary action against Akhil Giri under Sections 3(1)(r), 3(1)(s), 31). 3(1)(w)(i) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Sections 153A and 509 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
