Dr Rajeshwar Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Sarojini Nagar constituency, distributed aid and appliances worth ₹50 lakhs to 1000 Divyangjans.
Dr Singh’s efforts to ensure the benefits of the Central and State Government’s welfare schemes for the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities are reaching them saw 650 UDID cards, 60 medical certificates and 800 Divyangjan Assistance Devices were distributed.
“It is my political aim to see smiles on the faces of persons with disabilities. It is a great privilege for me to do something for people with disabilities (PWD). The indomitable will of Divyangjans and my wish to do something for others is an inspiration for me,” said MLA Dr Singh.
“The governments led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath have launched several schemes for the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PwD) to empower Divyangjans,” he said.
Dr Singh informed that Union and Uttar Pradesh Governments have allocated ₹635 crores (overall) and ₹1000 crores respectively in the 2022-23 budget for the welfare of Divyangjans.
The central government amended the Rights to Persons with Disability Act 1995 and replaced it with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 to increase the reservation quota for PwD from 3 to 4 per cent in jobs and 3 to 5 per cent in educational institutes.
“The Uttar Pradesh government has reduced the qualifying marks for the Divyangjans category from 60 per cent to 55 per cent,” said MLA.
Dr Singh said that we have to provide access to skill development opportunities for the development of Divyangjans and provide easy loans at zero interest rates with less effort to enable them to become self-reliant.
