NEW DELHI: As news of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) reverberated, several BJP leaders reacted, expressing a range of sentiments from criticism to satisfaction. Some BJP leaders accused Kejriwal of arrogance and evading accountability by not attending summons issued by investigative authorities, reflecting the political tensions surrounding his arrest and its implications for the Delhi political landscape.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur reacted to Aam Aadmi Party’s claims that the arrested Delhi Chief Minister would run the government from jail, calling it an “insult” to the people of Delhi and “law and democracy.” “It is unfortunate that a political party that spoke about the corruption of the Congress and demanded the arrest of Sonia Gandhi has refused to appear before the ED even after nine summons,” said Mr. Thakur. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra remarked on Kejriwal’s repeated absence from summons, stating, “Today, the Delhi Chief Minister’s pride has been broken.”

Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the excise policy case. Meanwhile, BJP leader Shehzad Poonwalla criticized AAP leaders for portraying Kejriwal as a victim, stating, “The ideology is that he will be corrupt, and when the court takes action, he will call it an atrocity and play the victim card.”
Echoing sentiments of satisfaction, BJP leader Manoj Tiwari claimed that the arrest of Kejriwal brought joy to the people of Delhi, suggesting that justice was being served. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav reiterated the commitment to uphold the law, emphasizing that action would be taken against those involved in corruption.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed disappointment at Kejriwal’s predicament, stating that he should have resigned from his post as Chief Minister in light of the allegations against him. Additionally, BJP leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri questioned the rationale behind Delhi’s new excise policy, highlighting alleged shortcomings and financial losses attributed to it. The political discourse surrounding Kejriwal’s arrest remains heated and contentious.
