BJP HQ turns fortress; cops stop AAP protesters

Terming the arrest of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia an “emergency” situation, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers held a protest near Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters at DDU marg on Monday afternoon.

Hundreds of workers led by leaders like Sanjay Singh, Atishi, Raghav Chaddha, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Jasmine, and Gopal Rai gathered outside the AAP office also located at DDU marg, and demanded the release of Manish Sisodia.

Sisodia was arrested following eight hours of questioning on Sunday night. As per the CBI officials, Sisodia was allegedly involved in corruption and money laundering in forming the Delhi Excise Policy and distribution of the licenses to the liquor vendors.

Several leaders were detained on Sunday the whole night so they could not gather at CBI headquarters and hold a protest. AAP then announced a nationwide protest on Monday against Sisodia’s arrest.

AAP Spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said: “The political situation of Delhi has taken a dramatic turn with the illegal arrest of almost 80% of Aam Aadmi Party’s organizational leadership by the Delhi Police.”

“Every important person in the organization has been put behind bars since yesterday,” said Bhardwaj.

He highlighted how the media has not found anything against Manish Sisodia, even after his arrest. However, Bhardwaj continued: “It is the same tired tale the CBI has been repeating ad nauseam since May 2022. I want to ask: why was the arrest required then? Was Manish Sisodia preparing to leave the country? Did he meddle with any witnesses or evidence? He has been enduring the torment for ten months now. Was any new evidence discovered against him? The CBI has all the documents and files already. Some have argued that the policy itself was corrupt. We are all aware that the policy was approved and notified by the former Lieutenant Government Anil Baijal, who the central government appointed. Why has the CBI not investigated the former LG in the last ten months?.”

Calling the allegations against Sisodia, a“pack of lies,” Saurabh Bhardwaj reiterated that there is no evidence against Sisodia. He urged the media to show the people how the central government is torturing the Aam Aadmi Party.
