Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s demand for pictures of God Ganesh and Goddess Laxmi on Indian notes to improve Indian economy hasn’t gone down well with either the BJP or the Congress. While the BJP rejected his move as a gimmick, Congress once again called him the B-team of RSS and BJP.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal had appealed to the Prime Minister to issue new notes with pictures of Laxmi and Ganesh, Indian gods of wealth and wisdom. He said while one side of the note should continue to carry Mahatma Gandhi’s photo, on the other side pictures of the Hindu Gods must be adorned with the pictures of the Gods.
The appeal comes weeks after posters of a skull-cap wearing Kejriwal had appeared in prominent cities of the poll-bound Gujarat. He was called anti-Hindu in them. Other AAP leaders in the state have also been accused of making anti-Hindu remarks.
The Delhi government’s move of banning crackers on Diwali had also led to it being tagged “anti-Hindu.”
BJP leaders promptly rejected Kejriwal’s demand as a gimmick. Here are a few reactions from the BJP camp –
Manoj Tiwari, BJP leader — Gujarat chief Gopal Italia and other leaders have abused Hindu Gods and yet they continue to be in the party. These are just tactics to save face in polls. Those who objected to Ram Mandir are now appearing with a new mask for political expediency.
National Secretary Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga: After Aurangzeb, Kejriwal is the second ruler who put ban on crackers. His anti-Hindu face is exposed. He sent Hindu kids to jail for bursting cracker. Now just to break his ‘Aurangzeb’ image Arvind Kejriwal is trying to become a Hindu.”
Amit Malviya, In-charge BJP’s IT cell : Kejriwal recently issued a fatwa banning crackers in Delhi. He is an anti-Hindu bigot. His promises and pronouncements are meant to distract from governance failure in Delhi and Punjab. Parali continues to burn and farmers are waiting for 1,000/acre. Delhi, meanwhile, is choking.
Responding the barrage of criticism from the opposition camp, AAP MLA Atishi Marlena said that while critics are free to “hate” Kejriwal, they must refrain from making any comments about Goddess Laxmi and Lord Ganesh.
Earlier in the day speaking to the media the Delhi CM had emphasized that printing notes with the Hindu God and Goddess would ensure prosperity for all. He also said if Indonesia being a Muslim country can put the pictures of Ganesh and Laxmi Ji, then why not India. “Out of overall population of Indonesia, 85 percent are of Muslim and only two percent are of Hindus. Despite that they have put the pictures of Ganesh Ji and Laxmi ji on their currency, ” he said.
He also added that the government can start printing the pictures of deities on the new notes which will go for printing next month.
