NEW DELHI: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has approved 82 new Research & Development (R&D) projects aimed at advancing the standardisation process in India. Faculty members from prestigious technical institutes, including IITs and NITs, will lead these projects, each with a budget of up to Rs 10 lakh and a six-month completion timeline.
The projects cover critical areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain Technology, Medical Devices, Renewable Energy, Sustainability, Smart Cities, and Digital Transformation.
BIS Director General Pramod Kumar Tiwari emphasized the significance of these initiatives, stating, “Our collaboration with premier educational institutions and the sanctioning of numerous R&D projects signify our commitment to advancing the standardisation process in line with technological advancements and evolving industry needs.”
BIS, as the National Standards Body of India, has developed over 22,000 Indian Standards to date, ensuring the quality and safety of various goods and services. Recognizing the need for continuous R&D in the standardisation process, BIS has formed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with educational institutions to leverage their expertise and promote necessary research for standard formulation.
Through these enhanced R&D efforts, BIS aims to safeguard consumer interests and contribute to developing a safer, more reliable marketplace in India.
