Biplab Deb Targets CPI(M) and Congress Over Leadership Crisis

Summary

Biplab Deb slammed CPI(M)โ€™s new leadership and accused Congress of family-centric politics while strongly backing the Modi governmentโ€™s push for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

New Delhi: In a sharp critique of the Opposition, Tripura MP and former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday questioned the national relevance of CPI(M) leaders and accused the Congress party of being confined to dynastic politics.
Speaking at a convention on โ€œOne Nation, One Electionโ€ at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan, Deb commented on CPI(M)โ€™s internal changes, particularly the elevation of Tripuraโ€™s Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury to the partyโ€™s Polit Bureau. He said the CPI(M) lacks a single leader with pan-India recognition. โ€œEven the new General Secretary from Kerala is a name hardly anyone knows. I had to search him up on Google,โ€ Deb quipped, suggesting that while he may be a dedicated party member, he lacks national visibility.
Deb contrasted this with the BJP, highlighting the nationwide popularity of leaders like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath. โ€œThe BJP has faces that are recognized across the country โ€” thatโ€™s not the case with CPI(M) or Congress,โ€ he added.
He further criticized the Congress, asserting that it remains centered around a single family and has strayed from its original values.
Addressing the main theme of the event, Deb made a strong pitch for the One Nation, One Election initiative. He traced the origins of synchronized elections back to Indiaโ€™s post-independence era and blamed the Congress party for disrupting the system through repeated toppling of state governments.
Deb argued that holding simultaneous elections would reduce expenses, increase administrative efficiency, and give governments more time to focus on governance rather than continuous campaigning.
โ€œThis initiative isnโ€™t about politics โ€” itโ€™s about public welfare and national progress. Prime Minister Modiโ€™s vision behind this move is to strengthen democracy and ensure faster development,โ€ Deb concluded.
