Bihar Police Brings New Master Plan To Control ‘Gunda Raj’

The rising incidents of crime seem to have woken the Bihar Police out of its slumber, as it has constituted a new master plan to control and mitigate crime and put criminals behind bars.

The rising incidents of crime seem to have woken the Bihar Police out of its slumber, as it has constituted a new master plan to control and mitigate crime and put criminals behind bars.

Additional Director General, headquarters, Jeetendra Gangwar shared the plan on Friday. “We have constituted 92 teams to keep the criminals in control, and each team will work in each district,” ADGP Gangwar said.

ADG Gangwar also shared the data of arrested criminals in the state in various cases. “According to our data, there were 437 arrests in murder cases, 234 for attacking police officials, 1492 in attempted murder cases, 362 in SC&ST Act and 6407 in other serious crimes. Thus, a total of 8885 criminals have been arrested by the state police,” he said.

According to ADG Gangwar, with 3,030 arrests, the state capital Patna witnessed the highest number of arrests.

“Our state police are quite vigilant; we keep making policies. Those policies help immediately bring down the number of crimes. The team we have made, its work is to only arrest criminals,” said ADG Jeetendra Gangwar.

ADG further said that the new teams have handed over the list of criminals that have to be arrested. Many foreigners have also been arrested. “From Paschim Champaran, Bagha to Kishanganj, Bihar shares a border with Nepal, we are trying to coordinate with the Nepal police and exchange information,” Gangwar said.

According to a Nation Crime Report Bureau (NCRB) report, in 2021, Bihar topped the list of states in crimes relating to land disputes, while it was second only to Uttar Pradesh in the number of murder cases. In crimes related to land disputes, Bihar recorded 3,336 cases, followed by Maharashtra (1,259). A total of 815 people were killed over land disputes in Bihar in 2021.

Bihar also topped the list in attacks on police and government officials, recording 150 cases, whereas in cases related to attempts at murder, Bihar, with 8,393 cases, was second only to West Bengal (13,351).
