Bihar: No glittery-provocative clothes, salary cut for unshaved male teachers

Begusarai's teachers prohibited from keeping beard and wearing jeans.

BEGUSARAI: In an amusing move, Bihar’s education system is experiencing some fashion-related reforms. While female teachers have been asked to stay away from “glittery-provocative” dresses, male teachers face the unusual prospect of losing a day’s pay for turning up unshaved. Jeans, too, are a big no-no within classrooms, as the instructions mandate that teachers stick to desi clothing. While they must adhere to these fashion choices, they are also barred from sitting during the entire duration of the class.

Leading this atypical initiative is KK Pathak, an unwavering IAS officer, who is leaving no stone unturned in his mission to revamp the education system. His persistent efforts have already yielded positive results, with a significant surge in student attendance across government schools.

KK Pathak, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department, recently issued a comprehensive 14-point guideline for teachers and principals, aimed at enhancing school operations and elevating the quality of education. The directive includes regular maintenance of school facilities, playgrounds, and laboratories, along with promoting sports activities to foster an all-round development of students.

With KK Pathak at the helm, the District Education Officer of Begusarai took prompt action and issued guidelines to all school principals within the district. Ensuring the successful implementation of Pathak’s visionary plan became a top priority.

However, amidst the commendable efforts to uplift the education system, some may find the dress code regulations somewhat out of the ordinary. Teachers have been instructed not to don jeans or T-shirts while embracing the clean-shaven look. Any violation during inspections may lead to a day’s salary deduction. Additionally, female teachers were particularly advised to avoid wearing provocative or flashy clothes and to opt for traditional Indian attire while attending school.

While the fashion policing approach may raise eyebrows and elicit curiosity, it cannot be denied that KK Pathak’s relentless commitment to reform education system has garnered attention. He aims to create a nurturing environment where students can flourish academically and personally.

Critics may view these guidelines as unconventional, but supporters argue that the ultimate goal is to boost discipline and professionalism in schools, which could potentially have a positive impact on students’ behavior and learning outcomes.
