ARRAH: A man has left his four-month pregnant wife to marry a transgender person, triggering a heated dispute that resulted in the wife consuming poison in Bihar’s Arrah.

Madhu Gupta, a resident of Kanali village under Shahpur police station, is runs a general store. Rani Devi (28), his wife of three years, found herself in a precarious situation when Madhu made the life-altering decision to wed a transgender person in Patna.

The strained relationship between the couple reached a boiling point when Madhu’s rare visit to the village ended in a violent altercation over monetary demands. In a shocking twist, Madhu, who had brought poison with him, physically assaulted Rani before coercing her into consuming the toxic substance.

Rani’s health quickly deteriorated, necessitating her immediate admission to the Arrah district hospital for critical care.

Recounting the events leading up to the incident, Rani said that her marriage to Madhu took place in 2020 in Kanali village. However, her husband’s increasing detachment and refusal to provide financial assistance left her emotionally and financially vulnerable. Even when Rani desperately required her husband’s presence in the village, Madhu callously declined.

In his defense, Madhu disclosed that following a life-threatening accident years ago, the transgender person came to his aid, providing him with ₹90,000 for medical treatment. Once Madhu had fully recovered, the transgender person expressed feelings of loneliness, claiming to possess everything necessary for a comfortable life. In response, Madhu made the impulsive decision to marry the transgender person.

“She saved my life. The only thing she asked for in return is that I perform her last rituals,” Gupta said, adding that he brought poison for her wife but he did not give her.
