Chief minister Nitish Kumar will not take part in the Bihar assembly bye-election campaigning for Gopalganj and Mokama seats owing to his injuries, deputy Chief minister Tejaswi Yadav said on Tuesday.
Chief minister Nitish Kumar will not take part in the Bihar assembly bye-election campaigning for Gopalganj and Mokama seats owing to his injuries, deputy Chief minister Tejaswi Yadav said on Tuesday.
Bye elections for the two constituencies will take place on November 3. Yadav had already reached Gopalganj for the final phase of campaigning. He will be accompanied by Janata Dal-United (JDU) president Lalan Singh and JDU parliamentary board president Upendra Kushwaha.
Yadav told the media that CM Kumar has sent his message to the people of Gopalganj and Mokama. “Today is the last day of campaigning. We are organising a campaign event for both seats,” Yadav added.
Kushwaha said, “The publicity has been done before, but we are going to give it the final touch. The BJP’s campaigning would not have much impact, and the BJP is aware of it. The atmosphere is very good for Mahagathbandhan. There is a huge turnout of voters in both constituencies.”
In a major development, the son of former union minister, late Ram Vilas Paswan, Chirag Paswan, has announced that his party will support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the bye-elections.
While the decision by Paswan is considered a big boost for the opposition BJP, the ruling coalition, Mahagathbandhan, has said that it will not affect their chances of winning both seats.
“The Chirag model used by the BJP in the 2020 assembly elections has come to the surface. The arrival of Chirag will not make any difference. The Mahagathbandhan will win both the seats,” JD(U) president Singh said.
Interestingly, Bihar’s election scene looked quiet in the beginning, but the bye-election in the state has become a hotbed of politics after the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief, Paswan, decided to support the BJP in the bye-election.
“Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will campaign for the BJP in the bye-elections to Mokama and Gopalganj,” Paswan said while announcing his decision to back the BJP in the bye-election.
“I am talking only about the bye-elections for Mokama and Gopalganj. It took a long time for us to arrive at a decision. Only two days are left before the campaign comes to an end. Our party will do its best to ensure the victory of the BJP candidates,” he added.
