Complaint filed against Ramdev in Bihar for hate speech

Patanjali's Baba Ramdev criticised modern medical practitioners for practising "false propaganda".

A complaint has been filed in Bihar’s Muzzafarpur against yoga guru and Patanjali Yog Peeth leader Ramdev for his controversial remarks against the Muslim and the Christian communities at a religious gathering ion Barmer, Rajasthan on Saturday.

Social activist Tamanna Hashmi has filed a complaint in a Muzzafarpur court, accusing Ramdev of being “attention-seeker” and “extremist”, and of portraying Hinduism as the “best religion” as compared to Islam and Christianity.

The court will hear the matter on February 16.

At a meeting of seers in Rajasthan’s Barmer on Thursday, the yoga guru had accused Muslims of committing terrorism and abducting Hindu women.

In his speech, Ramdev said told the gathering of seers, “I am not criticizing anyone but…some people are obsessed with converting the entire world to Islam and…Christianity,”

The video of the event has also gone viral on social media.

Ramdev’s statement against Muslims and Islam is objectionable and it has hurt their sentiments, social activist Hashmi told media persons in Muzzafarpur.

Comparing the Abrahamic religions to Sanatan dharma, he said, “Sanatan Dharma teaches its followers to perform yoga, and not to indulge in violence. It teachers them to be early risers and engage in kind deeds by worshipping God”.

Several media reports said that non-profit organization Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP), dedicated to the protection of human rights, on Friday condemned the derogatory statements and called it hate speech against Muslims and Christians.
