NEW DELHI: Bihar is set to get its first Coca-Cola plant in Nawanagar, Buxar, with significant developments announced by SLMG Beverages Pvt Ltd.

Siddharth Ladhani, Executive Director of SLMG Beverages, shared insights into the project with The New Indian.

“We have acquired distribution rights for Bihar. We’ll be manufacturing every portfolio, including Coca-Cola, Limca, Thums Up, Kinley, etc., so it will be an integrated plant,” Ladhani stated. The total investment in the plant is approximately ₹1,100 crore, with a production capacity of 5,000 bottles per minute.

“The establishment of the plant will create 800 jobs and 30,000 indirect jobs because we will also be sourcing raw materials from the region,” Ladhani added.

When asked why Bihar was chosen for this significant investment, Ladhani explained, “There is a lot of potential in Bihar with a population of around 14 crores. The penetration in the market is low. If I compare it with other states like UP and Punjab, per capita consumption is very high in Bihar. But there is hardly any product availability. We will be on a drive to penetrate and grow in the state.”

Ladhani also mentioned that construction is expected to begin in the first week of September. “We have acquired the land, but we are still waiting for some clearances from the government,” he said.

Regarding the plant’s operations, Ladhani highlighted the advanced technology that will be employed. “Eighty to eighty-five percent of our work is automated. Human intervention is very low. It’s all driven by machines. We will need a highly skilled and quality team to manage our plant,” he noted.

The Coca-Cola Company’s decision to expand its operations in North India aligns with its global strategy to enhance its market presence. SLMG Beverages, the largest independent bottler of Coca-Cola in India and South West Asia, is spearheading this venture. The company’s move to invest around ₹1,100 crore in the Bihar project is part of a larger plan to invest ₹3,000 crore across its existing territories.
